What if the side buttons of the iPhone would be controlled by software instead of mechanical switches? Which new interactions could be possible? As ux design lead I explored these questions with a team of hardware and software engineers. We created a novel hardware button with custom haptic feedback that allowed new interactions like sliding and force press. I was responsible for creating UX prototypes that showcased which new interactions were possible with this platform, for example: Press to focus and take a photo, slide to zoom in on a photo, press or slide to change volume, toggle through different functions like photo, Siri, volume etc.

With these explorations I contributed to the new Camera Control Button first introduced with iPhone 16 as well as the Action Button (evolution of the former mute switch) first introduced with iPhone 15.
